About the Centre

HKUKC, formerly The Kadoorie Agricultural Research Centre, was established in the mid 1980s with the generous support of Sir Horace Kadoorie and Lord Lawrence Kadoorie. It is situated on 10 hectares of land near Shek Kong in the New Territories. HKUKC was opened by the then Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Edward Youde, on 7 June 1986. An extension to the Centre was completed in 1988. The Centre is used not only by students from HKU and other tertiary institutions and secondary schools in Hong Kong, but also by students from overseas and various non-academic groups. HKUKC functions as a research facility in a variety of areas relating to environmental science and agricultural, horticultural, and nature conservation problems. The Centre also operates as a field and residential facility for teaching and research work in the natural and environmental sciences for The University of Hong Kong and other tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. Finally, HKUKC serves as a venue for various academic-related activities, student camps, training courses, seminars and symposia for miscellaneous educational groups and professional societies.

The Centre can provide accommodation up to 150 guests in a mix of dormitories, guestrooms and suites. All our guest facilities, including dormitories, are air-conditioned and all are provided with internet connections. If you wish to find out more about the Centre's accommodation and booking arrangements, please go to the Facilities and Online Reservations of this website.
